		Stark County Trail and Greenway Plan Environmental Design Group was given an Award of Merit from the American Society of Landscape Architects for the Stark County Trail and Greenway Plan. It was one of only 50 entries selected out of hundreds of nominations to receive this prestigious national honor. The plan was recognized for enhancing the value of existing resources while increasing recreational opportunities and promoting the public interest in preserving valuable environmental resources. It provides a comprehensive trail system linking the historical, cultural and recreational facilities throughout Stark County. This ambitious plan creates an open space legacy for generations to come in Stark County, and links both natural and cultural resources of the county with the Ohio and Erie Canal Corridor. Using the Canal Corridor as the plan's spine, additional routes were designed that would traverse the county and connect significant features. The routes serve as a recreational trail and as a catalyst for economic development; they also maintain a link with Stark County's rich past. The plan allows the community to receive an outstanding recreational area, while enabling Stark County to guide future development in the area and to maintain the rural atmosphere that this outstanding Northeast Ohio county is known for.
