Timmons Elementary SchoolEnvironmental Design Group provided surveying, master planning, and site design and contract documents for this 450-pupil state-of-the-art elementary school in beautiful Bainbridge Township, Ohio. The building was carefully placed within a densely wooded site to preserve the natural scenic qualities, while still providing for the needs of the facility. Drives and parking areas are separated by blocks of remaining forest,
so that views to the building unfold like pages in a book as visitors approach the wonderfully designed building. The long winding driveway gives the visitor an ever changing perspective of the building as it approaches the public arrival plaza.
The parking lot for visitors, staff and service vehicles was strategically separated
from the school bus parking and drop-off to avoid traffic conflicts and ensure the safety of the pupils. The play area, playfield and walkways were designed as integral with the building to make for a cohesive whole.
The stormwater detention pond was designed as a pocket wetland for its educational and aesthetic value.
The pond is directly related to the building's unique shape, making it a prominent feature from classrooms and the library.
The firm's work also included design of a water well system, sanitary sewer force main and other utilities, including gas and electric service. All systems were designed to minimize disturbance to the existing woods while providing for the needs of the school's population. |
